Having moved from Nelson in December 2017, to purchase the lease of 37 The Landing Motel, Anne and myself are definitely the new members of the Whakatane community.

The reason for the uplift, was business.  When looking to purchase a motel, we were advised to look for an operating business within an area of forward growth and Whakatane was at the top of the list.

Although new to the motel industry, I have run my own farming business and I’m well aware of budget restraints and the highs and lows of fluctuating seasons.  Until six years ago, we were living in North Canterbury before moving to Nelson. Like Whakatane, sunshine and tourism and what the area had to offer year-round, was very important to the area’s economy.

I am seeking a position on the Executive Committee. I believe in the importance of a working relationship campaign where all businesses receive the flow-on effect.   Where opportunities encourage the travelling public, to stay longer in an area therefore, maximising what Whakatane has to offer.

To me, it’s a great time to be involved with the Chamber of Commerce.
