Goal One: Retail Promotion

Objective:
Co-ordinate events that promote the retail sector within Whakatane

Actions:

  • Organise a World Cup Promotion & other events
  • To participate in coordination of the Berry Town Festival
  • To organise an annual Christmas Window promotion
  • To organise a summer radio advertising campaign
  • To hold at least two market days each year
  • To coordinate the annual Christmas Parade

Goal Two: Rewarding Retail Excellence

Objective: To provide acknowledgement of retail excellence

Actions:

  • To organise two mystery shopper competitions per year (one retail, one service)
  • To organise a Best Customer Service Promotion competition

Goal Three: Improve the Retail Image of Whakatane

Objective: To define the image wanted and how to achieve it

Actions:

  • To communicate activities to members through monthly comments in the COC newsletters
  • To work with landlords to reduce the number of empty shops in town or to reduce the appearance of them being empty
  • To work with the Whakatane District Council on strategies that will affect the retail sector e.g. Town Vision, Parking and a Retail Strategy

Goal Four: Improving the Retail Profitability of Whakatane

Objective: To improve the profitability of businesses in Whakatane

Actions:

  • To work with the other organisations such as Toi EDA, Landlords group, major tourist operations to encourage tourists to Whakatane
  • To produce an annual 7 days trading poster and open hours guidelines for over the XMAS period to encourage standard hours for shoppers
  • To identify funding opportunities available for promotional activities
  • To promote training opportunities available to retailers to help them grow their businesses
