Skype – (including practical application and making accounts)(2.0&2.5 hours)

Skype is a software application that allows users to make voice/video calls over the Internet.
Calls to other users with the Skype service are free, while calls to both traditional landline telephones and mobile phones can be made for a fee using a debit-based user account system.
This is a practical session where participants can make accounts and practice Video/Voice calls and practice screen sharing.
Introduction to Facebook & Practical – (2.0&2.5 hours)

Facebook is a social networking service and website launched in February 2004, operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc.
Users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile. Facebook users must register before using the site (this is for Free). Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups, organized by workplace, school or college, or other characteristics.
In this session we introduce Facebook, look at the ‘makeup’ of Facebook, discuss the benefits and pitfall, learner outcomes and some simple strategies of how to use Facebook effectively.

YouTube is a video-sharing website, on which users can upload, share and view videos.
In this session, we look at how to incorporate this as a tool in your organization. How to viewYoutube without it being a drain on your data allowance, benefits and pitfalls of Youtube going viral. Twitter is an online social networking service and microblogging service that enables its users to read text-based posts, known as “tweets”. It has been described as “the SMS of the internet”. Learn ideas around how social networking can help you and your organisation.
Cyber safety(2 hours)

An awareness session of the ‘in’s and ‘out’s of today’s cyber world, how to safeguard yourself with net protection and introduction to the Privacy Commissioner. Gems also include cyber safety sites suitable for children through to teens.
Picasa (1.5-2.0 hours)

There are 2 types of Picasa. The programs are both free. One is an online photo storage system by Google and the other is the software developed again by Google and it is an image (photo) organiser and editor. It is a very popular programme with professional photographers because of the ease of use. In this practical session, you’ll be able to try out and explore the different features that Picasa has including making videos for Youtube from your pictures.

In this introduction, see how to utilise Google Apps to keep you on track. For example create a simple survey form, talk with Google Talk and see how to manage your day with a calendar that texts you reminders!
